Powerful Non-Chlorine Oxidation for Cleaner, Fresher Spa Water
Diamond Spa Shock is a fast-dissolving, non-chlorine oxidizer formulated specifically for hot tubs and swim spas. Its potassium monopersulfate formula—commonly known as MPS—breaks down the organic contaminants introduced by bathers, including perspiration, body oils, lotions, cosmetics, and other non-filterable waste.
By oxidizing this hidden buildup, Diamond Spa Shock helps chlorine, bromine, and compatible mineral-sanitation systems work more efficiently. Regular oxidation can help reduce sanitizer demand, control unpleasant odors, improve water clarity, and keep spa water feeling fresh.
Unlike chlorinating shock, Diamond Spa Shock does not add chlorine, calcium, or cyanuric acid to the water. It is an oxidizer—not a sanitizer—so the spa must still maintain the proper sanitizer residual required by the water-care system and spa manufacturer.
FROG @ease compatibility: Diamond Spa Shock uses the non-chlorine MPS chemistry recommended for occasional cleanup treatments with FROG @ease. Follow the instructions for the exact FROG system; Bullfrog’s current guidance calls for non-chlorine shock when replacing the SmartChlor Cartridge or approximately once per month.

📋 How to Use
Always follow the directions and safety precautions printed on the current product container. The label should take priority over any generalized dosage guidance.
Before Treatment
- Determine the spa’s actual water capacity.
- Test the sanitizer, pH, total alkalinity, and other required water-balance levels.
- Correct any significant water-balance problems before shocking.
- Make sure the circulation system is operating properly.
- Open the spa cover and confirm that no one is in the water.
Initial Treatment
- Measure approximately 1 to 1½ ounces per 500 gallons, following the current product label.
- With the circulation system operating, broadcast the measured product evenly across the water’s surface.
- Do not pour concentrated product into the filter compartment or allow undissolved granules to collect on one area of the spa shell.
- Leave the cover open during the initial circulation period.
- Allow the product to dissolve and circulate completely.
Routine Traditional Chlorine or Bromine Maintenance
- Measure approximately ¾ ounce per 500 gallons.
- Apply weekly during normal or heavy spa use or whenever additional oxidation is needed.
- During very light use and water temperatures below approximately 86°F, every-other-week treatment may be sufficient.
- Apply another label-directed treatment following unusually heavy use, parties, or multiple-bather soaking sessions.
- Continue maintaining the sanitizer residual specified by the spa manufacturer and sanitation program.
FROG @ease Maintenance
- Confirm that the water is properly balanced and that the SmartChlor Cartridge is not empty.
- Use a label-directed MPS dose when installing a replacement SmartChlor Cartridge or approximately once per month, following the instructions for the exact FROG system.
- Additional cleanup treatments may be appropriate when water becomes hazy or following an unusually heavy bather load.
- Continue using FROG @ease Test Strips and following the required cartridge-replacement schedule.
| Spa Capacity | Initial Treatment | Routine Treatment |
| 300 gallons | Approximately 0.6–0.9 oz. | Approximately 0.45 oz. |
| 400 gallons | Approximately 0.8–1.2 oz. | Approximately 0.6 oz. |
| 500 gallons | Approximately 1–1½ oz. | Approximately ¾ oz. |
| 1,000 gallons | Approximately 2–3 oz. | Approximately 1½ oz. |
Important: These amounts are scaled from the dosage currently shown in Southern Leisure’s product materials. Measure by weight rather than capful until the capacity of the current container cap has been confirmed.
Do not enter the spa until the product has dissolved and circulated completely, all water-care readings are within their required ranges, and the waiting period on the physical container label has passed.
💬 Southern Leisure Says
Sanitizer and oxidizer are not interchangeable. Chlorine, bromine, or SmartChlor provides the required sanitation, while Diamond Spa Shock removes the organic waste that makes that sanitizer work harder.
Adding more sanitizer is not always the best response when the water looks dull or smells unpleasant. If the sanitizer is already within range, the spa may need oxidation, filter cleaning, improved circulation, or a complete water-balance correction.
For traditional chlorine and bromine spas, build oxidation into the regular maintenance routine. FROG @ease owners should follow the system’s monthly MPS-shock schedule instead of automatically adding it every week.
🧼 Care & Maintenance
- Keep the product in its original container.
- Keep the lid tightly closed when not in use.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is Diamond Spa Shock a sanitizer?
No. It is a supplemental non-chlorine oxidizer. Continue maintaining the chlorine, bromine, SmartChlor, or other approved sanitizer required by the spa’s water-care system.
What is the difference between an oxidizer and a sanitizer?
A sanitizer controls bacteria and other microorganisms. An oxidizer breaks down non-living organic contaminants such as perspiration, body oils, lotions, and cosmetics.
Does Diamond Spa Shock contain chlorine?
No. It uses potassium monopersulfate and does not add chlorine to the water.
Does it add cyanuric acid?
No. MPS is not a stabilized chlorine product and does not introduce cyanuric acid.
Can I use it with traditional chlorine?
Yes. It oxidizes contaminants without substantially raising the chlorine residual, allowing the chlorine sanitizer to work more efficiently.
Can I use it with bromine?
Yes. MPS is commonly used as a supplemental oxidizer in properly maintained bromine spas.
Can I use Diamond Spa Shock with FROG @ease?
Diamond Spa Shock uses the non-chlorine MPS chemistry recommended for FROG @ease cleanup treatments. Follow the instructions for the exact FROG system and use FROG @ease Test Strips to verify proper operation.
How often should I use it with FROG @ease?
Bullfrog’s current FROG @ease guidance calls for non-chlorine shock when replacing the SmartChlor Cartridge or approximately once per month. Additional treatment may be appropriate for hazy water or unusually heavy spa use.
How much should I add?
The current Diamond product materials list approximately ¾ ounce per 500 gallons for routine treatment and 1–1½ ounces per 500 gallons for initial treatment. Follow the physical container label and adjust for the spa’s actual capacity.
Why are capful measurements not included?
The capful conversions currently displayed on the product page are internally inconsistent. Measure in ounces until the capacity of the current container cap has been confirmed.
Can I use the spa 15 minutes after treatment?
Follow the waiting period printed on the current container label. At minimum, allow the product to dissolve and circulate completely and confirm that all sanitizer and water-balance readings are within their required ranges before entering.
Why does my test show combined chlorine after using MPS?
Residual MPS may temporarily register as combined chlorine on certain DPD and FAS-DPD tests. Test before adding MPS, wait until the following morning, or use a test method designed to neutralize MPS interference.
Will it clear cloudy water?
It may help when organic contamination is causing the cloudiness. Dirty filters, low sanitizer, poor circulation, incorrect pH, excessive hardness, high dissolved solids, or plumbing buildup may require additional correction.
Should I add Diamond Spa Shock after a party?
Yes. Parties and multiple-bather soaking sessions introduce a large amount of organic contamination. A label-directed treatment following heavy use can help prevent cloudiness, odors, and excessive sanitizer demand.
Can I add it through the filter compartment?
Broadcast it evenly over the open spa water with circulation operating unless the current physical label specifically directs another application method.
Can I mix it with chlorine or another chemical?
No. Never mix concentrated spa chemicals together. Measure and add each product separately according to its label.
