Self-Regulating SmartChlor Refills for the FROG @ease Floating System
Keep your FROG @ease Floating System operating with this convenient three-pack of replacement SmartChlor cartridges. Each prefilled cartridge works with the blue FROG @ease mineral cartridge to automatically maintain a consistently low chlorine level without daily measuring or mixing.
SmartChlor responds to the hot tub’s sanitizing demand while maintaining approximately 0.5–1.0 ppm free chlorine when the water is properly balanced. Because SmartChlor does not add cyanuric acid to the water, it helps prevent the stabilizer buildup commonly associated with routine dichlor use.
Each cartridge typically lasts three to four weeks in an average 400-gallon hot tub. This three-pack can provide approximately nine to twelve weeks of sanitizer under normal conditions, although actual cartridge life varies with hot tub capacity, dial setting, temperature, water balance, bather load and frequency of use.
This listing contains three SmartChlor replacement cartridges only. The blue mineral cartridge, complete floating system, startup shock and FROG @ease test strips are not included.

🧩 Compatibility & Fitment
These cartridges are designed specifically for the standard FROG @ease Floating System used in hot tubs up to 600 gallons. Each SmartChlor cartridge connects to the reusable blue mineral cartridge from the complete floating system kit.
A valid FROG @ease mineral cartridge must be present for SmartChlor to sanitize the water properly. The mineral cartridge lasts up to four months or until the hot tub is drained and refilled, whichever occurs first.
- Fits the standard FROG @ease Floating System
- For hot tubs up to 600 gallons
- Connects to the blue floating mineral cartridge
- Does not include the blue mineral cartridge
- Does not include the complete floating system
- Does not fit FROG @ease in-line systems

📋 How to Use
1. Confirm the Mineral Cartridge Is Current
- Check the installation date of the blue FROG @ease mineral cartridge.
- Replace the complete Floating System Kit if the mineral cartridge has been used for four months.
- Replace the complete system if the hot tub has been drained and refilled.
- Do not attach a new SmartChlor cartridge to an expired mineral cartridge.
2. Remove the Depleted SmartChlor Cartridge
- When the floating system flips completely over, remove it from the hot tub.
- Allow the system to drain back into the hot tub.
- Return it briefly to the water to confirm that it flips completely over.
- Twist the depleted SmartChlor cartridge to the unlock position.
- Separate it from the blue mineral cartridge.
3. Set the New SmartChlor Cartridge
Remove the outer packaging and turn the cartridge dial to the recommended starting setting:
| Hot Tub Capacity | Starting Setting |
| 200–299 gallons | Setting 1 |
| 300–450 gallons | Setting 2 |
| 451–550 gallons | Setting 3 |
| 551–600 gallons | Setting 4 |
The manufacturer’s current setting chart begins at 200 gallons. For a hot tub between 150 and 199 gallons, follow the setting directions printed on the current cartridge packaging or contact Southern Leisure for assistance.
4. Attach the New Cartridge
- Line up the arrows on the blue mineral cartridge and the new SmartChlor cartridge.
- Push the two cartridges together.
- Twist until the cartridges lock securely.
- Place the connected system back into the hot tub.
- Allow it to float freely.
5. Shock and Monitor the Water
- Add FROG Maintain or another manufacturer-approved non-chlorine maintenance shock when replacing the SmartChlor cartridge.
- Do not use dichlor as the routine maintenance shock because cyanuric-acid buildup can reduce SmartChlor’s effectiveness.
- Test the water regularly with FROG @ease test strips.
- Maintain pH between 7.2 and 7.6.
- Maintain total alkalinity between 80 and 120 ppm.
- Maintain total hardness between 150 and 250 ppm.
A slight tilt while the system is floating is normal. Replace the cartridge when the system flips completely over and the FROG @ease test strip confirms that SmartChlor is depleted.
💬 Southern Leisure Says
This is the correct refill product after the SmartChlor cartridge included with your standard FROG @ease Floating System Kit runs out. Keep the blue mineral cartridge and replace only the SmartChlor side until the mineral cartridge reaches its four-month limit or the hot tub is drained and refilled.
Cartridge life is strongly affected by water balance and bather load. If a cartridge is being depleted much faster than three to four weeks, check the water balance, cartridge setting, filtration, water temperature and hot tub usage before simply increasing the setting.
Use FROG @ease test strips with this system. Conventional chlorine strips can display the SmartChlor reserve as total chlorine, which may make the readings appear unusually high or confusing even while free chlorine remains within the proper range.
🧼 Care & Maintenance
- Maintain pH between 7.2 and 7.6.
- Maintain total alkalinity between 80 and 120 ppm.
- Maintain total hardness between 150 and 250 ppm.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in this 3-pack?
The package contains three SmartChlor replacement cartridges for the standard FROG @ease Floating System. It does not contain a blue mineral cartridge, floating holder, test strips or maintenance shock.
Will these cartridges fit the floating system kit?
Yes. These are the replacement SmartChlor cartridges for the standard FROG @ease Floating System Kit.
Do these cartridges work by themselves?
No. SmartChlor must be attached to a current FROG @ease mineral cartridge for the sanitizing system to operate properly.
How long does each cartridge last?
Each cartridge typically lasts three to four weeks in an average 400-gallon hot tub. Actual life varies according to hot tub capacity, cartridge setting, water balance, temperature, bather load and frequency of use.
How long will the complete 3-pack last?
The three cartridges may provide approximately nine to twelve weeks of sanitizer under normal conditions. This is an estimate rather than a guaranteed service life.
How do I know when a cartridge is empty?
The standard floating system flips completely over when SmartChlor is depleted. Confirm the replacement condition with a FROG @ease test strip before installing a new cartridge.
How often must the mineral cartridge be replaced?
The mineral cartridge lasts up to four months or until the hot tub is drained and refilled, whichever occurs first. At that point, replace the complete FROG @ease Floating System Kit.
Will these fit a Bullfrog Simplicity system?
