Complete Floating Sanitizing System for Swim Spas Up to 3,000 Gallons
Make swim-spa water care easier with the FROG® @ease® Sanitizing System for Swim Spas. This complete floating system combines FROG Sanitizing Minerals with self-regulating SmartChlor® Technology to kill bacteria two ways while maintaining a consistently low free-chlorine level.
The prefilled system floats directly in the swim spa and automatically releases SmartChlor as the water needs it. This helps eliminate the chlorine spikes and drops associated with manually adding traditional chlorine after every use. When the SmartChlor Cartridge is empty, the floating system flips upside down to provide a convenient visual replacement reminder.
This updated system includes one FROG Kick-It® single-dose start-up shock packet for establishing the initial chlorine level in a freshly filled swim spa. It also includes the Mineral Cartridge, SmartChlor Cartridge, 30 FROG @ease Test Strips, and a standard tether for optional use.
Designed exclusively for swim spas: This system treats swim spas containing up to 3,000 gallons. It is not the FROG @ease Floating System for ordinary hot tubs and should not be used in pools or swim spas larger than 3,000 gallons.

📋 How to Use
Always read and follow the physical product labels and the operating instructions included with the system. It is a violation of federal law to use a registered sanitizing product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. The physical labels take priority if their instructions differ from the general guidance below.
1. Confirm the Swim Spa Is Compatible
- Use only in a swim spa containing no more than 3,000 gallons.
- Confirm that the pumps, filtration system, heater, and circulation equipment are operating properly.
- Operate the pump and filter according to the swim-spa manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Clean or replace dirty filter cartridges before starting the system.
- For dual-zone models, use the water capacity of the swimming area when selecting the SmartChlor setting.
2. Determine Whether Draining Is Required
- If the swim spa previously used dichlor, you may ordinarily convert without draining when the cyanuric-acid level is below 80 ppm.
- If the swim spa previously used bromine or biguanide, drain and refill before installing FROG @ease.
- Drain and refill if the cyanuric-acid level is 80 ppm or higher.
- Follow the swim-spa manufacturer’s instructions when draining and refilling.
3. Test and Balance the Water
Balance the water before installing the cartridges. Adjust total alkalinity before making the final pH adjustment.
| Water-Balance Factor | Recommended Range |
| Total Alkalinity | 80–120 ppm |
| pH | 7.2–7.6 |
| Total Hardness | 150–250 ppm |
| Total Dissolved Solids | Below 1,500 ppm |
| Cyanuric Acid | 0–50 ppm recommended; drain and refill at 80 ppm or higher |
- Add balancing chemicals separately and in small increments.
- Keep the jets operating while adding balancing products when directed by their labels.
- Allow adequate circulation time before retesting or adding another adjustment.
- Heat the water to the swim-spa manufacturer’s recommended operating temperature.
- Maintain a water temperature of at least 80°F and do not exceed the swim-spa manufacturer’s maximum recommendation.
4. Add FROG Kick-It Start-Up Shock
- Use FROG Kick-It after the freshly filled swim spa has been properly balanced.
- Make sure the circulation system is operating.
- Cut a corner of the packet along the marked cut line.
- Pour the entire packet into the swim spa according to its physical label.
- Allow it to circulate and establish the required initial chlorine level before installing the floating system.
FROG Kick-It is a single-dose dichlor start-up shock designed for freshly filled swim spas containing up to 3,000 gallons. The fast-dissolving formula helps remove organic contaminants, establish the initial chlorine level, and reduce the initial demand placed on the SmartChlor Cartridge.
5. Set the SmartChlor Cartridge
Adjust the dial on the translucent gray SmartChlor Cartridge according to the swim spa’s actual water capacity:
| Swim Spa Capacity | Starting Setting |
| Less than 1,800 gallons | Setting 2 |
| 1,800–2,200 gallons | Setting 3 |
| More than 2,200 gallons | Setting 4 |
These are recommended starting settings. Cartridge life and the ideal setting may vary with water capacity, temperature, filtration time, bather load, jet use, and water balance.
6. Assemble the Floating System
- Remove the outer packaging from both cartridges.
- Discard any loose mineral particles that may have been dislodged during shipping.
- Align the tabs on the SmartChlor Cartridge with the guides on the Mineral Cartridge.
- Push the two cartridges together until they click securely into place.
- Confirm that the connection is secure before placing the system in the water.
7. Place the System in the Swim Spa
- Place the assembled system in the swim spa and allow it to float.
- Attach the included tether to a suitable railing when necessary.
- Keep the system away from the filter intake, skimmer, and strong return jets.
- Do not place either cartridge loose in the swim spa.
- Make sure the system can float and rotate freely.
You may remove the system while swimming or exercising. Lift it from the water, allow it to drain back into the swim spa, and place it on a chlorine-resistant surface. Return it to the water immediately afterward.
8. Test the Water Regularly
- Use the included FROG @ease Test Strips at least once each week.
- Dip one strip into the water and remove it with the test pads facing upward.
- Shake the strip once to remove excess water.
- Compare the pads with the color chart printed on the bottle.
- Use the SmartChlor Out Indicator to determine whether sanitizer remains available.
- Continue maintaining total alkalinity, pH, and total hardness within their recommended ranges.
Ordinary test strips can show confusing total- and free-chlorine results because SmartChlor maintains a chlorine reserve. FROG @ease Test Strips are designed specifically to indicate when the SmartChlor Cartridge needs replacement.
9. Add Monthly Maintenance Shock
- When the system reaches approximately a three-quarter rotation, add one properly sized packet of FROG Maintain for Swim Spas according to its label.
- This generally occurs at approximately three weeks under normal conditions.
- Using FROG Maintain at this point may extend the remaining SmartChlor Cartridge life by up to approximately one week.
- Do not use dichlor as the routine monthly maintenance shock because repeated dichlor use raises cyanuric-acid levels.
FROG Maintain for Swim Spas is not included with this system kit unless specifically stated elsewhere in the offer.
10. Replace the SmartChlor Cartridge
- Replace the gray SmartChlor Cartridge when the system flips upside down.
- Confirm the sanitizer status with the SmartChlor Out Indicator on a FROG @ease Test Strip.
- You can also inspect the remaining contents through the translucent cartridge housing.
- If the system does not flip completely, lift it from the water and allow all trapped water to drain. Return it to the swim spa; if it immediately flips, the cartridge is empty.
- Separate and discard or recycle the empty SmartChlor Cartridge where the FROG recycling program is available.
- Set and attach a genuine replacement Swim Spa SmartChlor Cartridge.
A SmartChlor Cartridge typically lasts approximately three to four weeks. Heavy use, warm water, extended filtration, high sanitizer demand, or a larger swim spa may shorten its life.
11. Replace the Mineral Cartridge
- Replace the blue Mineral Cartridge every four months.
- Replace it whenever the swim spa is drained and refilled, even if four months have not passed.
- Do not continue using it simply because mineral material can still be heard inside.
- The remaining sound comes primarily from material that does not completely dissolve and does not indicate that the sanitizing minerals remain effective.
💬 Southern Leisure Says
This is the complete system customers need when first switching a compatible swim spa to FROG @ease or when replacing the system at the beginning of a new four-month water-care cycle.
You do not need to purchase the complete kit every time the gray SmartChlor Cartridge becomes empty. During the four-month mineral cycle, replace only the SmartChlor Cartridge every three to four weeks. Replace the complete system—or at minimum the Mineral Cartridge—every four months or whenever the swim spa is drained and refilled.
Water balance is essential. If the pH rises above the recommended range, SmartChlor may not perform properly even when sanitizer remains inside the cartridge. Test the water weekly, keep the system away from strong jets and filter intakes, and replace the SmartChlor Cartridge promptly when the system flips.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is included with this system?
The kit includes one blue Mineral Cartridge, one translucent gray SmartChlor Cartridge, one FROG Kick-It start-up shock packet, 30 FROG @ease Test Strips, a standard tether for optional use, and operating instructions.
Is the reusable silicone tether included?
No. The kit includes a standard tether. FROG’s upgraded 20.5-inch reusable gray silicone tether is sold separately unless the offer specifically states that it has been added.
Can this system be used in a regular hot tub?
No. This version is designed specifically for swim spas containing up to 3,000 gallons. Regular hot tubs require a compatible FROG @ease hot-tub system.
Can it be used in a dual-zone swim spa?
Yes, provided the system is used in the swimming section and the manufacturer’s other requirements are followed. Use the gallon capacity of the swimming area—not the combined capacity of both zones—when selecting the SmartChlor setting.
What does FROG Kick-It do?
FROG Kick-It is a single-dose dichlor start-up shock for freshly filled swim spas up to 3,000 gallons. It establishes the initial chlorine level, helps address organic contaminants, and reduces the initial sanitizer demand placed on the SmartChlor Cartridge.
How long does the SmartChlor Cartridge last?
It typically lasts approximately three to four weeks. Actual life depends on swim-spa capacity, cartridge setting, water temperature, filtration time, bather load, jet use, and water balance.
How long does the Mineral Cartridge last?
The Mineral Cartridge lasts up to four months. Replace it sooner whenever the swim spa is drained and refilled.
Do I replace the complete system every three to four weeks?
No. Replace only the gray SmartChlor Cartridge when it becomes empty. Continue using the blue Mineral Cartridge for up to four months or until the next drain and refill, whichever comes first.
How do I know when SmartChlor is empty?
The floating system flips upside down when the SmartChlor Cartridge is empty. You can also inspect the translucent cartridge and use the SmartChlor Out Indicator on a FROG @ease Test Strip.
Is it normal for the system to tilt?
Yes. The system naturally tilts as the SmartChlor shifts and becomes depleted. At approximately a three-quarter rotation, use FROG Maintain for Swim Spas according to its label. Replace the SmartChlor Cartridge when the system flips upside down.
Why should I use FROG @ease Test Strips?
SmartChlor maintains a chlorine reserve that can produce confusing total- and free-chlorine readings on ordinary test strips. FROG @ease Test Strips provide a dedicated Out Indicator showing when the SmartChlor Cartridge needs replacement.
Can I use dichlor for monthly maintenance shocking?
FROG directs users not to use dichlor as the routine monthly maintenance shock because repeated dichlor use increases cyanuric acid. Use FROG Maintain for Swim Spas according to its label.
Can I switch from traditional chlorine without draining?
You can generally switch from dichlor without draining when the cyanuric-acid level is below 80 ppm. Drain and refill before converting from bromine or biguanide or when cyanuric acid is 80 ppm or higher.
Can the floating system be removed while swimming?
Yes. Lift it out, allow it to drain into the swim spa, and place it on a surface that will not be damaged by chlorine. Return the system to the water immediately after swimming or exercising.
Does SmartChlor contain cyanuric acid?
SmartChlor does not add cyanuric acid. However, FROG Kick-It and other previously used dichlor products can add cyanuric acid, which is why repeated dichlor maintenance shocking is not recommended.
Why is my SmartChlor Cartridge running out early?
Heavy use, high water temperature, long filtration cycles, strong jets, high sanitizer demand, an oversized dial setting, or unbalanced water can shorten cartridge life. Confirm the setting, balance the water, and keep the floating system away from filter intakes and strong return jets.
Can I refill an empty cartridge?
No. Both cartridges are factory filled and should not be opened, altered, or refilled. Install a genuine FROG @ease Swim Spa SmartChlor Replacement Cartridge when the original becomes empty.
