Deep Clean the Plumbing Hidden Inside Your Hot Tub or Swim Spa

Fresh water works best when it starts with clean plumbing. FROG® Hot Tub Pipe & Jet Cleanser is a concentrated, professional-grade gel that penetrates spa pipes and jet lines to loosen oils, lotions, grime, organic waste, and other accumulated residue before the old water is drained.

Unlike the smaller single-use packet, this 4 oz. multi-use tube allows you to measure the correct amount for your spa’s actual water capacity. One level teaspoon treats approximately 125 gallons, making the tube suitable for multiple hot-tub purges or larger swim-spa applications.

Package quantity: This listing includes one 4 oz. multi-use tube. It is not a six-pack or display carton.

Important: This is a plumbing cleanser used immediately before draining. It is not a sanitizer, shock treatment, clarifier, or routine additive for water you intend to keep.

📋 How to Use

Follow the physical product label and the spa manufacturer’s draining and refilling instructions. The physical label takes priority if its directions differ from the general guidance below.

1. Use the Existing Water

  • Perform the treatment while the hot tub or swim spa is still full.
  • Use water that is about to be discarded.
  • Do not add the cleanser to newly filled water that you intend to keep.
  • Do not allow anyone to enter the spa during treatment.

2. Prepare the Spa

  1. Remove headrests, pillows, and other removable accessories when possible.
  2. Remove sanitizer cartridges, floating dispensers, or other water-care devices.
  3. Remove the filter cartridges and allow them to float in the spa water during the purge when directed by the product label.
  4. Make sure the water level is high enough to circulate through every jet.
  5. Open all jets, air controls, waterfalls, water features, and diverter valves.

3. Measure the Correct Dose

Use approximately one level teaspoon for every 125 gallons of spa water.

Spa Capacity Approximate Dose
125 gallons 1 level teaspoon
250 gallons 2 level teaspoons
375 gallons 3 level teaspoons
500 gallons 4 level teaspoons
625 gallons 5 level teaspoons
1,000 gallons 8 level teaspoons
2,000 gallons 16 level teaspoons
3,000 gallons Approximately one full 4 oz. tube

Confirm the spa’s actual filled-water capacity rather than estimating from its outside dimensions.

4. Circulate the Cleanser

  1. Add the measured gel directly to the filled spa.
  2. Operate all jet pumps and water features on high.
  3. Open the air controls to create maximum turbulence.
  4. Allow the cleanser to circulate for approximately 15–30 minutes or for the time stated on the physical label.
  5. Rotate diverter valves during treatment so the cleanser passes through every plumbing zone.

Foam, flakes, discoloration, or waterline residue may appear as buildup is released from the plumbing. This is expected during a successful purge.

5. Turn Off Power and Drain

  1. Turn off power to the spa at the disconnect or breaker before draining.
  2. Skim or remove heavy floating residue when practical.
  3. Drain the spa completely according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  4. Follow local requirements for disposing of treated spa water.

6. Rinse While the Water Drains

  • Continuously rinse or wipe the shell as the water level drops.
  • Do not allow released residue to dry onto the shell.
  • Pay particular attention to the waterline, seats, footwell, and areas around the jets.

7. Clean the Empty Spa

  1. Rinse and wipe down the empty shell.
  2. Remove all loosened residue from the footwell and drain area.
  3. Clean and thoroughly rinse the filter cartridges.
  4. Replace filters that remain heavily contaminated, damaged, or difficult to clean.
  5. Rinse and reinstall the headrests, pillows, filters, and other removed accessories.

8. Refill and Restart Water Care

  1. Refill through the filter housing when recommended by the spa manufacturer.
  2. Restore power only after the spa has been properly filled.
  3. Confirm that all pumps are primed and circulating normally.
  4. Balance total alkalinity first, followed by pH and calcium hardness.
  5. Complete the proper startup sanitizer or shock procedure.
  6. Install fresh sanitizer cartridges or restart the normal sanitation system.

💬 Southern Leisure Says

A drain and refill is the perfect time to purge the plumbing because the old water is already scheduled to be discarded.

For the best result, open every jet and move each diverter valve through its different positions while the pumps are running. Otherwise, the cleanser may not circulate through every plumbing zone.

The 4 oz. tube is a particularly good choice for service professionals, swim-spa owners, larger hot tubs, or customers who want enough cleanser for several maintenance cycles.

🧼 Care & Maintenance

  • Use before every complete drain and refill, typically every three to four months.
  • Use before a seasonal shutdown when appropriate.
  • Close the tube securely after measuring the required dose.
  • Store the tube upright in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location.
  • Protect the product from freezing, excessive heat, and direct sunlight.
  • Keep the tube and measuring utensil separate from food-service items.
  • Do not mix the cleanser with other concentrated chemicals.
  • Do not use the product while bathers are in the spa.
  • Keep children and pets away during treatment, draining, and cleanup.
  • Follow all handling, storage, first-aid, and disposal directions printed on the tube.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Does this listing include six tubes?

No. This listing includes one 4 oz. multi-use tube. The manufacturer image showing a six-tube display carton should not be used as the primary image for this single-unit listing.

How much cleanser should I use?

Use approximately one level teaspoon per 125 gallons, unless the physical label directs otherwise. A 500-gallon hot tub requires approximately four level teaspoons.

How many hot tubs will one tube treat?

A 4 oz. tube contains approximately 24 teaspoons and treats roughly 3,000 gallons total. That equals approximately six 500-gallon treatments or five 600-gallon treatments.

Can I use it in a swim spa?

Yes. The 4 oz. tube may be used in hot tubs or swim spas. Calculate the dose using the actual water capacity and follow the product label.

Is this the same as the single-use packet?

The cleanser performs the same general plumbing-purge function, but the tube is a larger, multi-use package requiring gallon-based measurement. The packet is premeasured for a single hot-tub treatment up to its labeled capacity.

Do I have to drain the spa after using it?

Yes. The product loosens buildup into the existing water so the contamination can be removed during draining. Do not use the treated water as normal bathing water.

Why is the water foaming during treatment?

Foaming is expected. Oils, detergents, cosmetics, and other contaminants released from the plumbing can produce substantial foam and waterline residue.

Should I remove the filters?

FROG directs users to remove the filters and allow them to float in the spa water during the purge. After draining, rinse or clean them thoroughly before reinstalling. Replace filters that remain contaminated or restricted.

Does this product sanitize the spa?

No. It is a plumbing cleanser, not a registered sanitizer or routine shock treatment. After refilling, balance the water and restart the appropriate sanitation system.

How often should I purge the plumbing?

For best results, use the cleanser before each complete drain and refill—typically every three to four months for a hot tub—or when preparing the spa for a seasonal shutdown.

Can I use it with FROG @ease or FROG Serene?

Yes. The cleanser is compatible with FROG systems and other common spa sanitation methods when used before draining. Remove the sanitizer cartridges or dispenser during the purge and reinstall the appropriate system after refilling and balancing the water.

Can I use it after filling with fresh water?

It should only be used if you plan to drain the water immediately after treatment. Using it after a fresh fill would require discarding that new water.
