Genuine Platinum Spas SS01 Filter for Compatible Hot Tubs & Swim Spas

Maintain dependable water flow and filtration with the genuine Platinum Spas SS01 Hot Tub & Swim Spa Filter. This 50-square-foot pleated cartridge helps capture hair, dirt, body oils, lotions, and suspended debris before they can continue circulating through your spa’s plumbing and equipment.

The SS01 measures approximately 8.25 inches long by 6 inches in diameter and features a closed top with an integrated handle. Its 38 mm coarse male-thread connection screws directly into compatible Platinum Spas filter housings for a secure, properly aligned fit.

This filter is commonly used in select Platinum Spas hot tubs, swim spas, and other Superior Wellness products. Because filter type and required quantity can vary by model year and equipment configuration, compare the measurements and connection style with your existing cartridge before ordering.

Before ordering, compare your existing filter’s length, diameter, top handle, bottom thread, and printed part number with the specifications shown here.

Some compatible spas use more than one filter. Confirm the quantity installed in your spa before selecting the order quantity.

📋 How to Use

1. Confirm the Replacement Filter

  1. Locate the part number printed on your existing filter or packaging when available.
  2. Confirm that the existing cartridge is approximately 8.25 inches long and 6 inches in diameter.
  3. Verify that it has a closed handle top and 38 mm coarse male-thread bottom.
  4. Confirm how many filters your specific hot tub or swim spa requires.

2. Turn Off the Spa

  1. Turn off the spa’s main power at the disconnect or circuit breaker.
  2. Do not remove or install the filter while a filtration or jet pump is operating.
  3. Wait for water movement around the filter housing to stop.

3. Remove the Existing Filter

  1. Remove the filter-compartment cover or floating weir if required by your spa model.
  2. Grasp the handle at the top of the installed filter.
  3. Turn the cartridge counterclockwise to release the coarse male thread.
  4. Lift the cartridge out carefully so trapped debris does not fall into the filter intake.
  5. Remove leaves, hair, and other loose debris from the filter compartment.

4. Clean or Replace the Cartridge

For routine cleaning, rinse between the pleats using a garden hose and nozzle. Work from top to bottom around the entire cartridge until loose debris has been removed.

For accumulated oils and lotions, apply a cleaner formulated for hot-tub filter cartridges. Follow the cleaner’s physical label, allow the recommended contact time, and rinse the filter thoroughly before returning it to the spa.

Replace the cartridge if the pleats are torn, crushed, separated, stiff, heavily discolored, or still flow-restrictive after proper cleaning.

5. Install the SS01 Filter

  1. Inspect the filter-housing threads for dirt or damage.
  2. Position the SS01 vertically over the threaded connection.
  3. Turn the cartridge clockwise until the coarse thread engages.
  4. Continue turning by hand until the filter is secure and properly seated.
  5. Do not force, cross-thread, or excessively tighten the cartridge.
  6. Reinstall the filter cover or weir assembly.

6. Restore Operation

  1. Restore power at the disconnect or circuit breaker.
  2. Allow the spa to resume normal circulation.
  3. Confirm that water is moving normally through the filter area.
  4. Check the control panel for flow or heating warnings.

💬 Southern Leisure Says

Never identify a replacement filter by the spa’s brand name alone. Platinum Spas has used more than one filter style, and compatibility can change by model year. The safest match is the combination of the existing part number, cartridge dimensions, handle style, and bottom connection.

Platinum Spas recommends cleaning filters at least every two weeks under normal conditions. Heavy use, high bather loads, lotions, nearby trees, and swim-spa operation may require more frequent cleaning.

Keeping a spare filter makes maintenance easier. Install the clean cartridge immediately, then properly deep-clean and rinse the removed filter without leaving the spa operating without filtration.

If your spa uses two or three filters, replace or properly clean the complete set. Mixing a heavily restricted cartridge with a clean one can create uneven water flow through the filtration system.

🧼 Care & Maintenance

  • Inspect the filter regularly for debris, oils, discoloration, and damaged pleats.
  • Clean the cartridge at least every two weeks or more frequently when needed.
  • Increase cleaning frequency during periods of heavy use.
  • Turn off the spa’s main power before removing the filter.
  • Use a garden hose and nozzle for routine rinsing.
  • Work from top to bottom between every pleat.
  • Rotate the cartridge while rinsing to clean the entire circumference.
  • Use only a cleaner intended for hot-tub filter cartridges.
  • Rinse thoroughly after applying any filter-cleaning product.
  • Do not use household soap, laundry detergent, or dishwashing products.
  • Do not use a pressure washer or excessively concentrated spray.
  • Do not use a stiff brush that could damage the pleated media.
  • Do not place the filter in a dishwasher or washing machine.
  • Allow a cleaned spare filter to dry completely before long-term storage.
  • Replace filters with torn, flattened, separated, brittle, or deteriorated pleats.
  • Replace the filter if water flow remains restricted after proper cleaning.
  • Inspect the threaded connection whenever the filter is removed.
  • Do not force or cross-thread the cartridge during installation.
  • Keep the filter compartment free of hair, leaves, and loose debris.
  • Never operate the spa normally without the correct filter installed.
  • Plan to replace the cartridge approximately every three months or sooner when its condition or performance requires it.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How many filters are included?

This listing includes one Platinum Spas SS01 filter cartridge. Some compatible hot tubs and swim spas use two or three filters, so confirm the quantity installed in your spa before ordering.

How can I confirm that the SS01 fits my spa?

Compare your existing filter with the SS01 specifications. It should measure approximately 8.25 inches long by 6 inches in diameter, have a closed top with an integrated handle, and use a 38 mm coarse male-thread bottom connection.

Will the SS01 fit every Platinum Spas model?

No. Platinum Spas has used different filter cartridges across certain models, production years, and equipment configurations. Confirm the existing filter’s part number, dimensions, and connection before ordering.

What is the difference between the SS01 and SS02?

The SS01 and SS02 are different filter cartridges with different physical configurations and applications. They should not be treated as interchangeable unless the dimensions, connection style, and manufacturer fitment information all match your spa.

Which replacement-filter numbers cross-reference with the SS01?

Common cross-references include Darlly 60401, Unicel 6CH-940, Pleatco PWW50P3, Filbur FC-0359, and Magnum WY45. Always compare the physical cartridge before ordering.

Does this filter fit Platinum Spas swim spas?

The SS01 is used in select swim-spa configurations, including certain Eros, Hera, and Neptune models. Compatibility and required quantity can vary, so check the filters currently installed in the swim spa.

How many SS01 filters does my spa require?

The quantity varies by model and configuration. Some hot tubs use one filter, many use two, and certain swim spas use three. Count the existing cartridges or consult the spa’s documentation before ordering.

Is this filter washable?

Yes. Rinse between the pleats with a garden hose and use a cleaner formulated for spa-filter cartridges when a deeper cleaning is required.

How often should I clean the filter?

Platinum Spas recommends cleaning filters at least every two weeks. Heavy use, oils, lotions, leaves, and other debris may require more frequent cleaning.

How often should I replace it?

Platinum Spas provides general guidance of approximately every three months. Actual filter life depends on usage, cleaning practices, water conditions, and cartridge condition. Replace it sooner if the media is damaged or circulation remains restricted after cleaning.

Can I use a pressure washer to clean the filter?

No. Excessive pressure can tear, separate, or permanently deform the pleated filtration media. Use a garden hose and nozzle instead.

Can I use household soap or detergent?

No. Household cleaning products can leave residue that creates severe foaming or other water-quality problems. Use a cleaner formulated specifically for spa-filter cartridges.

Is the chemical-dispenser pod included?

No. This listing includes the filter cartridge only. A compatible dispenser pod must be purchased separately and used only according to the applicable spa and water-care instructions.

Can a dirty filter cause a flow or heating warning?

Yes. A clogged or deteriorated filter can restrict circulation through the spa’s plumbing and heater. Check the cartridge whenever the spa develops weak circulation or a flow-related warning.

Why is the water still cloudy after installing a new filter?

A new filter improves debris removal, but cloudy water can also result from improper sanitizer levels, unbalanced water, insufficient circulation, heavy organic contamination, dirty plumbing, or old water. Filtration does not replace correct water balance, sanitation, and oxidation.
