Balance and Start Fresh Spa Water with One Convenient Kit

The Southern Leisure Spa Starter Kit brings together the essential products needed to test, balance, chlorinate, and oxidize fresh hot-tub water. It is ideal for a new-spa startup, a routine drain and refill, or restocking the core products used to manage pH, total alkalinity, and calcium hardness.

The kit includes separate pH increaser, pH decreaser, total-alkalinity increaser, and calcium-hardness increaser products so each water-balance reading can be corrected individually. It also includes Southern Leisure Super Shock for chlorination and three Diamond Spa Shock packets for non-chlorine oxidation.

Test the water before adding any product. Most refills will not require every balancer in the kit. Use only the products needed for the actual test results and follow the dosage, application, circulation, safety, and reentry directions printed on each physical container.

Important: This kit includes chlorinating and non-chlorine shock products, but it does not include test strips or a complete ongoing sanitizer-delivery system. FROG @ease cartridges, bromine tablets, chlorine feeders, mineral cartridges, and other sanitation components must be purchased separately when required.

What’s Included

Southern Leisure Super Shock — 1 lb.

A concentrated chlorinating product used according to its physical label for spa startup, chlorination, and shock treatment. This is the sanitizer-containing product in the kit.

Southern Leisure Alkalinity+ — 1 lb.

Raises total alkalinity when testing shows that it is below the range required by the spa or sanitation system. Proper total alkalinity helps buffer pH against rapid changes.

Southern Leisure pH+ — 1 lb.

Raises pH when the tested reading is below the required range. Do not add pH+ unless testing confirms that an increase is needed.

Southern Leisure pH− — 1.5 lb.

Lowers pH when the tested reading is above the required range. Depending on the treatment method and product directions, it may also affect total alkalinity.

Southern Leisure Hardness+ — 1 lb.

Raises calcium hardness when testing confirms that the water is too soft. It does not lower excessive calcium hardness.

Diamond Spa Shock — Three 2 oz. Packets

Non-chlorine shock treatment used to oxidize accumulated organic contamination. Follow each packet’s directions and the requirements of the spa’s sanitation system.

Spa-Care Guide

Provides general startup and maintenance guidance. Instructions for the spa manufacturer, sanitation system, filter system, and individual chemical labels always take priority.

📋 How to Use

Always follow the directions and safety precautions printed on each physical product. Never create a dosage solely from generalized online guidance.

1. Fill and Circulate

  1. Fill the spa to the level specified by the spa manufacturer.
  2. Use the manufacturer’s recommended filling location to reduce the risk of an air lock.
  3. Start the circulation system and confirm proper water flow.
  4. Determine the spa’s actual water capacity before calculating any chemical dosage.

2. Test the Water

  1. Use an accurate spa-water test strip, liquid test kit, or other approved testing method.
  2. Test total alkalinity, pH, calcium or total hardness, and sanitizer.
  3. Use the target ranges specified by the spa manufacturer and exact sanitation system.
  4. Test the source water for metals or other special conditions when applicable.

3. Adjust Total Alkalinity

  1. If total alkalinity is below the required range, use Alkalinity+ according to its physical label.
  2. Add the calculated amount with circulation operating as directed.
  3. Allow the required circulation time.
  4. Retest before adding more product or adjusting pH.
  5. If total alkalinity is already correct or too high, do not add Alkalinity+.

4. Adjust pH

  1. Retest pH after the total-alkalinity adjustment has circulated.
  2. Use pH+ only when the tested pH is too low.
  3. Use pH− only when the tested pH is too high.
  4. Do not add pH+ and pH− together.
  5. Make gradual adjustments and retest before adding more product.

5. Adjust Calcium Hardness

  1. Test calcium or total hardness using the method required by the spa or sanitation system.
  2. Use Hardness+ only when the reading is below the required range.
  3. Calculate the dose from the actual water capacity and physical label.
  4. Add the product in the manner specified on its container.
  5. Allow adequate circulation and retest.

Hardness+ cannot lower excessive calcium hardness. High hardness may require dilution with lower-hardness source water or another treatment approved by the spa manufacturer.

6. Establish the Sanitizer

After the water is balanced, establish the sanitizer required by the spa’s exact water-care system.

  • Traditional chlorine program: Use Southern Leisure Super Shock according to its physical label and the spa manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Bromine program: Follow the bromine-system startup instructions. This kit does not include bromine tablets, a bromide reserve product, or a dispenser.
  • FROG @ease: Follow the instructions for the exact Classic, Simplicity, Simplicity XL, floating, inline, or swim-spa system. Cartridges and system components are sold separately.

7. Oxidize as Required

Use the included Diamond Spa Shock packets according to their physical directions and the requirements of the sanitation system.

For FROG @ease, current FROG instructions specify non-chlorine shock for routine maintenance and warn against using dichlor as the regular maintenance shock because cyanuric-acid buildup can reduce SmartChlor performance. Follow the current instructions supplied with the exact FROG system.

Important Application Rules

  • Never mix concentrated chemicals together.
  • Add only one product at a time.
  • Allow the label-required circulation time between products.
  • Use a clean, completely dry measuring tool.
  • Do not use the same scoop without cleaning it between incompatible products.
  • Keep the spa cover open when required by the applicable chemical label.
  • Retest before adding more product.
  • Do not enter the spa until all readings are in their required ranges and every applicable waiting period has passed.

💬 Southern Leisure Says

The products in this kit are tools—not a recipe that requires adding every container after every refill.

Start by testing the water. Correct total alkalinity first when needed, retest the pH, and use either pH+ or pH− only if the pH still requires adjustment. Add Hardness+ only when the tested hardness is below the required range.

Once the water is balanced, establish the appropriate sanitizer and oxidation routine for the exact sanitation system. This test-first approach avoids unnecessary chemical additions and makes the water easier to understand and maintain.

🧼 Care & Maintenance

  • Keep every product in its original labeled container.
  • Keep all lids and packets tightly closed until use.
  • Store chemicals upright in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location.
  • Protect granular products from moisture and humidity.
  • Keep products away from excessive heat, flame, and direct sunlight.
  • Store acids, chlorinating products, and other incompatible chemicals separately.
  • Never store incompatible products where a leak could allow them to mix.
  • Use clean, completely dry measuring tools.
  • Do not return spilled or unused product to a container.
  • Do not mix concentrated chemicals together.
  • Wipe up spills using the procedure specified on the product label.
  • Do not use a wet scoop in any chemical container.
  • Follow all handling, first-aid, disposal, and emergency instructions.
  • Keep all chemicals out of reach of children and pets.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included?

The package includes one pound of Super Shock, one pound of Alkalinity+, one pound of pH+, 1.5 pounds of pH−, one pound of Hardness+, three 2-ounce Diamond Spa Shock packets, and a spa-care guide.

Does the kit include sanitizer?

Yes. Southern Leisure Super Shock is a chlorinating product. However, the kit does not include an automatic or long-term sanitizer-delivery system.

Does it include non-chlorine shock?

Yes. Three 2-ounce Diamond Spa Shock packets are included.

Does it include test strips?

No. A compatible testing method must be purchased separately. Testing is required before deciding which balancers to use.

Should I add all four balancing products after every refill?

No. Test first and use only the products required by the actual readings.

Should I add both pH+ and pH−?

No. Use pH+ when the tested pH is too low or pH− when it is too high. Never mix the two products or add both automatically.

What should I adjust first?

Total alkalinity is normally evaluated and corrected before the final pH adjustment because it helps buffer pH. Follow the sequence required by the applicable labels and sanitation system.

What if my calcium hardness is already correct?

Do not add Hardness+. Save it for a future fill when testing confirms that calcium hardness is too low.

Can Hardness+ lower high calcium hardness?

No. It only raises calcium hardness. Excessive hardness may require dilution with suitable lower-hardness water or another manufacturer-approved correction.

Can this kit be used with traditional chlorine?

Yes, when every product is used according to its physical label and the spa manufacturer’s instructions. Super Shock provides the chlorinating component.

Can it be used with bromine?

The balancing products may be used when permitted by their labels, but the kit does not include the complete bromine startup system. Follow the instructions for the exact bromine program.

Can it be used with FROG @ease?

The balancing products can be used to establish the water ranges required by FROG @ease when their labels permit. The kit does not include FROG cartridges or a FROG system kit.

Should I use Super Shock for routine FROG @ease maintenance?

Follow the current instructions for the exact FROG system. Current FROG @ease guidance specifies non-chlorine maintenance shock and warns against routine dichlor shock because cyanuric-acid buildup can interfere with SmartChlor performance.

Will one kit last four months?

No fixed duration should be promised. Product use depends on the source water, spa capacity, bather load, sanitation system, testing results, and frequency of water replacement.

Can the kit correct cloudy water?

It may help when improper balance or insufficient oxidation is contributing to the cloudiness. It will not correct every cause, such as dirty filters, inadequate circulation, exhausted sanitizer cartridges, excessive organic contamination, metals, or old water.

Can I use it in a swim spa?

Only when each physical product label and the swim-spa manufacturer permit it. Larger water volumes may require substantially more product than the quantities included in this kit.

Can I mix the products together before adding them?

No. Never mix concentrated spa chemicals. Add each product separately and follow all required circulation times.
